Description: To avoid losing storage space which the old butler pantry provided and actually increase useful storage, we included more than enough storage with custom made Prevo cabinets in the new kitchen design.

To increase the usable space in the kitchen and give the first floor a more open look and traffic flow, we removed part of the wall between the kitchen and family room. We also redesigned and updated the family room’s fireplace surround and hearth, and the room’s color pallet to complement the new kitchen.

Because the kitchen was now enlarged, we designed a 12’+ island. On one side, the island can seat four people between a wine cooler on one end of the island and a beverage cooler on the other. The other side of the island provided a sizeable, flexible food prep area with custom cabinet storage underneath. The island’s countertop was created using book matched Mont Blanc quartzite.

We used custom cabinets stacked for an impressive design statement that helped show off the kitchen’s ceiling height. The lower cabinets have wood doors, and the upper stacked cabinets have glass doors.

The kitchen’s cooktop exhaust system is encased in a custom-designed wooden hood. And the cooktop backsplash features a recessed herringbone marble tiled niche. The kitchen features a large double oven and a farmhouse-style sink.

To help ensure the kitchen lighting would fit any mood from romantic to bright and sunny, we used four types of lighting. First, we installed a new kitchen window. Over the island hang three Visual Comfort Lighting™ designer lantern fixtures. The ceiling has ample recessed lighting, and we installed under-cabinet lighting.

We converted a shallow closet near the kitchen into a wine nook with custom glass door cabinets on top and solid wood custom cabinets below. The countertop matches the rest of the kitchen, and the backsplash uses marble tile in a herringbone pattern as used behind the stovetop.
